ACIS hosts the Korean National Institute of Biological Resources (NIBR)
As the cyberinfrastructure partner of the iDigBio project, ACIS hosted Dr. Sungho Choi and Suwon Chun from the National Institute of Biological Resources (NIBR) in Korea. Their visit spanned a day and a half and included meetings with representatives from many segments of the iDigBio project: our biodiversity research, identifiers and database organization, and education.
NIBR houses the national biodiversity collections of Korea, is a research center, and includes extensive public exhibits. Their collections focus on the approximately 42,000 species found in Korea and they have over 2 million digitized specimens including 29,000 types. We talked about opportunities to exchange data with them in the future as well as ways to build skills in biodiversity informatics for their staff and researchers.
