Dan is an IT professional with over 16 years of experience that includes system administration, team management, networking, information security, database administration, and software development. Dan is an advocate for Open Source Software and Open Standards and has presented on these topics various times including the Florida Association of Museums Annual Conference in 2006.

Prior to joining UF's Advanced Computing and Information Systems laboratory in 2014, Dan has served at the University of Florida in a number of roles:

  • Supported large scale server infrastructure for UF's central IT organization (UFIT) in the Computing and Networking Services / Open Systems Group
  • Contributed to the Development of a Data Warehouse at the Shimberg Center for Housing Studies
  • Supported statisticians at the Children's Oncology Group Research Data Center, Gainesville
  • Administered Server and Network infrastructure at the Florida Museum of Natural History

Dan's role at ACIS is Data Integration Expert for the national Integrated Digitized Biocollections (iDigBio) project. This multi-institutional project is funded by the National Science Foundation. ACIS is responsible for designing and developing the middleware, supporting storage, and cloud infrastructure for the project.

Dan received a B.S. (cum laude) in Computer Science and Geology from Denison University, 1996.

Dan runs the data ingestion processes that bring new datasets into iDigBio's aggregated data services.
