In two recently awarded grants from the National Science Foundation (NSF), Dr. Renato Figueiredo of the Advanced Computing and Information Systems (ACIS) Laboratory is applying edge computing, virtual networks, and open-source software to advance the state-of-the-art in the nascent field of ecological forecasting, specifically lake ecology forecasting.
Professor and AT&T Eminent Scholar José A. B. Fortes was recently notified in a letter from University of Florida President Kent Fuchs that he is the recipient of the 2019-20 Teacher/Scholar of the Year Award, the highest faculty honor at UF.
Congratulations to Ícaro Alzuru, ACIS Lab’s most recent PhD graduate who defended his dissertation on “Human-Machine Extraction of Information from Biological Collections”, on Monday, March 30th at 8:30 am.
Guest Speaker: Dr. Keichi Takahashi visited the ACIS lab in Larsen Hall during the week of November 11th, 2019 to discuss collaborative research with ACIS faulty and student.
Congratulations to Ken Subratie, ACIS Lab’s PhD graduate who defended his dissertation on “A Software-defined Overlay Virtual Network with Self-organizing Small-world Topology and Forwarding for For Computing”, Friday, November 15th.
ACIS Director, Dr. José Fortes, was recently named as a University of Florida Research Foundation (UFRF) Professors for 2019- 2022.
The Advanced Computing and Information Systems (ACIS) lab was established in the Fall of 2001 and is home to faculty, students, researchers, technical staff and distinguished visitors and has extensive collaborations with other scientists and research organizations.
New storage hardware arrived last week for the iDigBio project. These new Supermicro servers will take the project from 430 TB to 924 TB of raw storage space (275 TB usable) and prepare us to accept the next 26 million images from the ADBC community.
